Have a Great Summer!

Filed under: Uncategorized — rbooze @ 10:02 am

I had a wonderful year with all of you. If you haven’t heard, I will not be back next year. I was required to force transfer to another school, and decided I would rather go back to school to get my Master’s degree.

I will be taking the year before I get married to decide whether I want to go back to school for counseling or special education. I will be taking some classes in the summer and in the fall at Wilmington University and Eastern University.

I have learned a lot from everyone this year and was grateful for the opportunity to be able to teach at NEHS. I wish everyone the best of luck with their future. I will be stopping in next year to check up on everyone and see how you’re doing.

Feel free to email me about anything at rn.booze@gmail.com

I love you all!

Ecosystem Project

Filed under: Uncategorized — rbooze @ 9:08 am

I am posting the ecosystem project incase you loose your sheet that I gave you in class:

ECOSYSTEM PROJECT

A community of plants, animals, and other living creatures that are in a habitat that has been created due to the earth’s weather systems is called an ecosystem. Survival is based upon individuals adapting to their environments and utilizing the resources to the best of their abilities. Below is a list of different ecosystems:

• Tropical rainforest
• Subtropical savannas
• Deserts and semi-deserts
• Oceans
• Temperate grasslands
• Temperate forests
• Coniferous forests
• Alpine and polar regions
• Tundra

You are going to choose an ecosystem and create a model of that ecosystem (If you pick something that isn’t on the list, see me for approval). You are to be creative with making your ecosystem. You can construct it using boxes, cardboard, legos, building blocks, paper, plastic animals and plants, or whatever you wish.

Don’t forget the most important part of an ecosystem is life! Make sure you have various plants and animals represented in your ecosystem.

You will need to write a 1 page paper on your ecosystem telling me what types of life you have in your ecosystem (include plants, animals, fungi, etc.). In your paper you also need to discuss the importance of maintaining that ecosystem and what would happen if it were to be destroyed (for example: The problems of cutting down rainforest trees lead to extinction of many animals).

You will need to present your ecosystem to the class. Your presentation needs to be 3-5 minutes long. Your presentation should be enthusiastic and factual ( I don’t just want to hear about how you built your ecosystem!)

You will be graded on the following:

Ecosystem (75 Points) Paper (25 Points) Presentation (20 Points)

Creativity (25) Life in ecosystem (15) Style (5)
Style (25) Importance (10) Enthusiasm (5)
Effort (25) Negative effects (10) 3-5 minutes (10)

Volcano Project

Filed under: Uncategorized — rbooze @ 10:06 am

Your volcano projects are due on friday. Below is the information you need incase you lost it.

Volcano Project

Over the next few weeks we will be learning about volcanoes! There are many different types of volcanoes, which vary in composition, eruption style, shape, and size. Your job is to create your own volcano!

You must demonstrate your volcano to the class. There is plenty of information on how to make a volcano on the Internet. Be original and creative! Your volcano does not need to erupt, but if you choose to have it erupt, you will not have to complete the writing assignment

Along with your volcano, you will write a 1-page paper on a volcano of your choosing. Find a volcano and tell me the composition, eruption style, the magma type, the shape of the volcano, volcano size, the eruption history, and any other facts you find.

You will receive 10 points off each day for lateness

Requirements for writing assignment if you choose not to have your volcano erupt:

                                         ____Composition of volcano

                                         ____Eruption style

                                         ____Volcano shape

                                         ____Volcano Size

                                         ____Magma type

                                         ____Eruption history

Keeping our fish alive!

Filed under: Uncategorized — rbooze @ 9:59 am

We have lost a few fish since we set up our aquarium. What are some possible reasons for their death? (They have been fed and the cloudiness of the water has nothing to do with it! What do you think?

I grieve over the death of our beautiful zebra fish. :(

I will now post powerpoints that we go over in class for people who are absent as well as people who need to finish up their work outside of school.

Powerpoints are located in the biology and physical science sections at the top of the page.

Egg Harbor (A Visual Field Trip)

Filed under: NISE Summer 2008 — rbooze @ 11:30 am

We payed a visit to a Egg Harbor, right outside of Atlantic City. We saw many great things such as a landfill, a recycling center, a building that used a hybrid of solar power as well as geothermal, a wind farm, and a water treatment plant. Here are the pictures from our visit:

Sputtering with Jessica

Filed under: NISE Summer 2008 — rbooze @ 11:36 am

Today, Jessica and I started sputtering on your own (not really, we were still under the supervision of Emre), but he helped us out in preparing the right conditions for sputtering (how much argon to use, heating the plasma, reducing the reflection value, presputtering, etc.) On monday we will load samples ourselves, which we will use
